“There is a piece of Africa in each of us”

James Hendry, in: 'Whatever you do, don't run'
  Community Relations Manager

Chris Brugman (1963) originates from the Netherlands and is a true "Mzungu" or wanderer, as the original meaning of the Swahili designation for a white person in Africa is. Already as a child she got used to the habit of packing up every four or five years, and she continued this nomadic life for some considerable time working for the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her assignments saw her landed in places ranging from Sweden to Cuba to Saudi-Arabia, and from Ethiopia to Uganda to Tanzania, war-time Angola and, especially, Zambia, where she has lived for up to nine years. It was Zambia that stole her heart, and this is the country where, at long last, she feels at home, due to its friendly population, its wild untamed wilderness areas, and its beautiful landscapes evoking promises of adventure and discovery.

Chris holds a MA honours in African Studies from Leiden University as well as several official South African field guide qualifications. Before she worked as a nature/field guide in South Africa, she assisted as a volunteer at several lodges in Zambia, amongst others our lodge in 2007.

Chris has travelled the southern African region extensively with her beloved Landy. To Chris, travelling is more than a passion: it is a necessity to readjust our focuses and enrich our horizons. Apart from travelling Chris is an avid birder, but then, all creatures great and small have her keen interest.

She is a friendly, easy-going person, who looks forward to welcoming our guests in our unique wilderness area, and share with them stories about the bush and about Africa.
