Package Tours

South Luangwa & Luambe National Park  - 8  or 10 nights

The stunning and famous Luangwa Valley hosts 3 National Parks– South Luangwa, Luambe and North Luangwa – all three being home of a wide range of more than 100 mammals species, along with numerous birds and reptiles.Kafunta River Lodge

The area is nourished by the Luangwa River which emerges in Northern Zambia at the border to Tanzania and majestically flows downstream covering an area of approximately 1000 km until it reaches the Zambezi. Although parts of the river dry out during the hot season lots of his lagoons carry water all year round  and therefore attract wildlife.

This stunning package covers South Luangwa - the best-known and most visited park in Zambia - as well as the remote and rather untouched wilderness area of Luambe National Park.

Day 1

Upon arrival in Lusaka you will be guided through customs by a meet & greet service before you board your short flight to Mfuwe. In the highly unlikely event of lost luggage the guys of our personal service will assist you and take care of the necessary procedure. Depending on your incoming flight connection you will reach Lusaka either early morning or around lunch time. Connecting time to the local flight is rather short. You will find your check-in desk within arrival hall.

The short flight to Mfuwe last approx. 1 ½ hrs. You will met by a guide from Kafunta River Lodge. In front of the airport building your open game-drive vehicle for the road transfer to Kafunta is already waiting for you.Lion at Kafunta Lodge

The drive takes  45 minutes on a tarred road passing the little village of Mfuwe. The last strech follows a sandy track. Depending on arrival time you might be able to join in on your first game drive.

Day 2 - 3

At Kafunta River Lodge the day starts with a hot cup of tea or coffee and some biscuits before the morning game drive. After your return to the lodge a brunch is served on a wooden deck overlooking the Luangwa.

You have than time to relax in your spacious room, explore the lodge area or just enjoy the little pool and hot spring. There is an afternoon tea before the night drive starts. Enjoy your  sundowner on the way while watching the unexceptional red African sun vanish behind the horizon. You return after dark when a candle light dinner is served.

The chalets are build from thatch and wood with a bathroom and a little veranda. There is a hairdryer, a hot water cooker and a fridge within the room. A very personal atmosphere is part of the pleasant stay at Kafunta.

Day 3 – 5

During late morning you will leave Kafunta to drive to the Island Bush Camp located within the National Park at a river front. The drive on track road through dense bush takes between 2-3 hours. The chalets at Island Bush Camp are build of thatch and grass. The all open bedroom is located in an upper deck whereas the attached bathroom section is on the ground floor and can be reached from your bedroom by a wooden staircase. Dining at Luambe

Life at Island Bush Camp is easy-going and relaxing. The park is explored by bushwalks or game drives. The sundowner is served on the oposite river bank after a short boat crossing.

The bushwalks are an exciting adventure allowing you to get a close-up look on wildlife with absolutely nothing between you and nature.

Day 5 – 8

After 2 nights you return to Kafunta Lodge where you will have time for a light lunch  when your adventure starts. Your driver from Luangwa Wilderness Lodge will either pick you up for the 3 to 4 hours ride through Mopane forrest, African villages and the open plains in the Nsefu sector or you board a small Cessna for a just 15 minutes flight to Waka-Waka airstrip.

The remote and romantic Luangwa Wilderness Lodge is situated right within Luambe National Park and offers an autentic bush feeling and experience being the only lodge within the park.

Depending only on solar power and purifying its own water the lodge trys to invade as little as possible with nature. Illumination with  basically candles and torchlight creates a terrific atmosphere when the darkness is just interrupted by the cry of a hyena.  Being deep in a wilderness area you still don`t have to miss comfort. The safari-style tents built on wooden platform have ensuite facilities, a small electric bulb and a little veranda.

The day starts with an early monring tea following with a morning gamedrive or a bushwalk. Returning to the lodge a brunch is served. Around 03.00 pm tea, coffee, biscuits, cake or muffins are served before you start the afternoon night drive.

In a secure area with great view you will enjoy your gin & tonic, beer or other drink while watching the sunset. During the dirve through darkness you may see noctural animals most likely leopard and servals which can be found in Luambe in high density. Other mammals common to see on a nightdrive are bushbaby, civet cats, genets, scrub hare, porcupine, honey badger to name a few.

The lodge is linked to a conservation project and with your stay you actively contribute to the maintanance and developpment of a National Park.  The local villages are supported by  our community project and for those interested a visit to the local village can be arranged.
