Conservation work

Luangwa Wilderness Lodge and Luangwa Wilderness e.V. are private initiatives in the conservation of a beautiful piece of Africa.
Luangwa Wilderness Lodge is actively involved in conserving the Luambe National Park, which had been somewhat neglected. Poaching was rife and consequently the game shy and scarce. Since the lodge has been operating a surprisingly quick recovery has been observed and game are returning very quickly.
The Lodge is owned by professional animal conservationists. The lodge owners get actively involved in the direct management of the park and money is raised from donors to support ZAWA ( Zambian Wildlife Authority ) in order to control poaching and park management.
Andrea Breytenbach, a nature lover from Chipata, Zambia founded the lodge. The lodge owners are Dr. Olaf Behlert - zoo veterinarian and deputy director of Cologne Zoo Germany - his wife Dr Claudia Behlert - also a vet - and Dr Friederike von Houwald, veterinarian and curator at Basel Zoo Switzerland and 4 other shareholders.
Sponsorship and donations to this project are most welcome. The owners guarantee the direct and full use of any such funds for the benefit of the park.
For the benefit of the Park
In Germany an NGO was founded in November 2003 with the sole purpose of fundraising for conservation and support of the management of Luambe National Park. More detailed information on objectives, goals and work of the NGO can be found at our website: www.conservation-luambe.de.
